| The
Australian Education System
Australia's
education system is divided into five sectors:
- Primary and secondary schools
- Pathways/Foundation studies
- The ELICOS institutes, which
offer English language intensive courses for overseas students
- A vocational education and
training system through the government-funded Technical and
Further Education (TAFE) institutes and private providers
- The universities (higher
education)
The Australian
academic year generally runs from February to December and
applications for many courses close in October. University and
foundation studies programmes often have a mid-year intake as well.
English language courses are flexible and starting dates are
frequent, often monthly.
